Asimov's Three Laws of SEO

  1. An SEO Plan may not injure a website visitor or, through inaction, allow a website visitor to come to harm.
  2. An SEO Plan must obey orders given it by a website visitor except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A SEO Plan must enhance its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
These rules could easily be re-written to use the word 'The Brand' instead of or in addition to 'website visitor'. The basic premise is that SEO is for acquisition of NEW USERS ONLY. Any adjustment to your website in the name of SEO that compromises the user experience or the brand is harmful to every netizen.

Fortunately you work at a company that takes full advantage of instant communication tools and would never let a mob do things under the banner of an SEO crusade which could screw up their brands or abuse their audiences.

Lucky you.

Unfortunately, I am not a VP of said company or I would feel more able to give examples of how breaking these rules can have very dangerous consequences.
